The Weekdays That Still Need a Plan in Olympic Valley and Alpine Meadows This Winter

October 15, 2026

"Weekdays have a rhythm all their own," Palisades Tahoe public relations manager Patrick Lacey told the Sierra Sun in July. That was when the resort said its Midweek Season Pass was coming back for the first time in more than 10 years. The announcement made the pass sound easy to use. It said no parking reservation is needed Monday through Friday, so a surprise powder day can be a spontaneous one.

For most of the 2026-27 season, that holds up. But the pass works from one calendar, the parking program from another, and the free Mountaineer shuttle from a third. Lay them side by side and a few weekdays stand out. They fall into three groups: weekdays inside holiday periods, ordinary Tuesdays and Wednesdays in Alpine Meadows, and the stretch between opening day and December 5. If you live in either valley and plan to ski weekdays this winter, these are the days to look at before you buy the pass.

What the pass covers on its own

The pass is valid Monday through Friday, with two blackouts: December 28, 2026, through January 1, 2027, and February 15, 2027. It is not valid on any Saturday or Sunday. Holders get 50% off lift tickets on weekends and holidays and 10 Friends & Family tickets at 25% off. They also get 10% off food, beverage and retail at select resort-owned locations. The Sierra Sun reported that it includes unlimited Aerial Tram rides next summer.

The price has already moved. In July, the starting price was $699. As of early October, the resort's Midweek Pass page lists "Starting at $759." A banner on that page says Ikon pricing goes up and fall savings end after October 8. Check the page before you buy rather than relying on any figure you saw over the summer.

The pass says nothing about parking. That is set by the Park Palisades Tahoe program, which the resort says is the same as last season. Weekend and holiday reservations are required starting December 5, and advance paid reservations cost $30 per day. On weekdays, parking at both Palisades and Alpine is free and first come, first served. The parking page qualifies that with "with the exception of some holiday blackout dates." That exception is where the two calendars split.

Holiday weekdays when the pass works but the lot needs a reservation

The pass blacks out only five days around New Year's and Presidents Day itself. The parking program's holiday periods are longer, and several of them include weekdays. On those days your pass gets you on the lifts, but on reservation dates a car without a reservation does not get a space at that base. Working from the 2026-27 reservation schedule:

  • December 21 to 25, Monday through Friday. The schedule lists December 19 to 31 as a holiday period at Palisades, and the pass blackout doesn't start until December 28. At Alpine, the holiday period is listed as December 27 to 31, so these five weekdays fall outside it on the published schedule.
  • January 18, Martin Luther King Jr. Day. It falls inside the January 16 to 18 holiday period, and the pass is valid that Monday.
  • February 16 to 19, Tuesday through Friday. The holiday period runs February 13 to 21. Only February 15 is blacked out on the pass, so the rest of that week is a pass day that needs a reservation.

The reservation system follows a weekly pattern. Free reservations for the following weekend open each Tuesday at 12 p.m. and 7 p.m. Carpool reservations for four or more people open at noon each Tuesday for upcoming weekends and holiday periods, with occupancy verified at check-in. Advance paid reservations at $30 per day are available for every weekend and holiday date of the season. The resort also sells a Midweek Seasonal Preferred Parking Pass, but it excludes holiday periods, so it doesn't cover these dates either.

Living in the valley gives you another option. The parking page's own list of alternatives names TART, TART Connect and the Mountaineer "for those who are staying in Olympic Valley or Alpine Meadows." On most holiday weekdays, the Mountaineer is how a local gets to the lifts without dealing with a reservation at all. That works as long as the shuttle is running in your valley that day.

Alpine Meadows on a Tuesday or Wednesday

The Mountaineer's posted 2026-27 schedule runs December 5, 2026, through April 18, 2027. In Olympic Valley, service runs daily from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. In Alpine Meadows, it runs Thursday through Monday from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. In most weeks, Alpine Meadows has no Mountaineer service on Tuesdays or Wednesdays.

Three pairs of dates are exceptions: December 22 to 23, December 29 to 30, and February 16 to 17. Those are holiday-week Tuesdays and Wednesdays. On two of them, December 22 to 23 and February 16 to 17, the pass is valid and the Palisades lot is on reservation, so the extra Alpine service lands on the days it's most useful. The other two, December 29 to 30, fall inside the pass blackout.

On a regular Tuesday in January or March, an Alpine Meadows resident with a Midweek Pass is driving. In practice, that usually isn't a problem. The parking page lists weekday parking at Alpine as free and first come, first served, and a Tuesday outside a holiday period needs no reservation. TART Connect isn't a fallback here. Its current fall listing says not to expect rides within Olympic Valley and points Tahoe City trips to TART buses instead.

Getting between the two bases has its own schedule. The Base to Base Gondola runs daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mountaineer rides between the valleys run daily from 5 to 11 p.m. That leaves a gap from 4 to 5 p.m. If you want après in the other valley, plan to leave later rather than right at last chair. In Olympic Valley, the Mountaineer picks up on the east side of the Village near CoffeeBar. In Alpine Meadows, the pickup is at the Alpine Lodge Breezeway, and you book through the Mountaineer app.

The resort's parking page says the Mountaineer will have "expanded operating hours planned for the 2026-27 season." The regular hours now posted match the 2025-26 schedule the Sierra Sun reported last September. The schedule page notes that hours can change with weather, road conditions and mountain operations, and that the app has the latest.

Opening week comes before both systems start

The third group is at the start of the season. Palisades is targeting Wednesday, November 25, for opening day, weather and conditions permitting. Parking reservations aren't required until December 5, and the Mountaineer's posted season also starts December 5. The published reservation calendar starts with December 5 and 6, so Thanksgiving weekend isn't on it. If the opening date holds, the first 10 days of the season run with no parking reservations and no posted Mountaineer service.

Some of the summer's work is aimed at those early days. The resort expanded snowmaking along Mountain Run to support top-to-bottom skiing in the early season. Fall maintenance on the Aerial Tram includes new hanger arms and replacement haul ropes, done with the tram's manufacturer, Garaventa. The resort is also adding six Gazex and Gazflex exploders at Palisades, five Wyssen avalanche towers at Alpine, and a CATEX cable system in The Funnel. Patrol can run these remotely in heavy snow, strong wind and low visibility.

Here is the valley calendar from now through the start of reservations:

  1. October 10 and 11, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The free Made in Tahoe Festival in the Village, with local makers and businesses. Bar proceeds benefit the Tahoe Truckee School of Music.
  2. October 17. Mountainfilm on Tour at the Olympic Village Event Center, doors at 5 p.m. and films at 6:30 p.m. Raffle proceeds benefit the Sierra Avalanche Center.
  3. November 25. Target opening day.
  4. November 28. Welcome to Winter in the Village, free and open to all, with the tree lighting and the induction of new members to Forged, the resort's monument honoring people who shaped the mountain and community. The celebration continues afterward at Bar One.
  5. December 5. Parking reservations and the Mountaineer's winter season both begin.

The following weekend, Tahoe Live runs December 11 to 13 at the base of Palisades, with Chris Lake, GRiZ and Knock2 headlining. December 12 and 13 are on the reservation schedule, so expect that Saturday and Sunday to be busy. The KT Bass Bar Music Series is set for 52 days of live DJs at the base of KT-22 this winter. The resort hasn't published which days yet. Kids Ski Free week is January 25 to 31, 2027. Children 4 and under ski free all season, and the Midweek Pass is free at that age too, available only in person at the ticket windows.
